Ayurveda

01.

The Three Doshas

  • Vata: The principle of movement (air + ether). Ideal for those experiencing imbalances in circulation, digestion, and nerve function.

  • Pitta: The principle of transformation (fire + water). Ideal for those experiencing imbalances in metabolism, inflammation, and digestion.

  • Kapha: The principle of structure (earth + water). Ideal for those experiencing imbalances in energy levels, immunity, and weight management.

02.

Saptha Dhatu

  • Rasa (Plasma) – Nourishment & immunity.

  • Rakta (Blood) – Circulation & vitality.

  • Mamsa (Muscle) – Strength & movement.

  • Medas (Fat) – Energy storage & insulation.

  • Asthi (Bone) – Structure & protection.

  • Majja (Marrow/Nerves) – Nervous system support.

  • Shukra (Reproductive) – Vitality & reproduction.

03.

Three malas

In Ayurveda, Malas refer to the waste products or excretions of the body that are essential for maintaining balance and health. The three main malas are:

  1. Purisha (Feces) – Waste material from digestion, eliminating undigested food and toxins.

  2. Mutra (Urine) – Waste fluid excreted by the kidneys, helping to remove metabolic byproducts.

  3. Sweda (Sweat) – Excreted through the skin, helping to regulate body temperature and remove toxins.

These malas are a natural part of the body’s detoxification process. Proper elimination of malas is crucial for maintaining health and balance in Ayurveda.

04.

Agni

Agni in Ayurveda is the digestive fire that governs digestion, metabolism, and transformation in the body. It has three main forms:

  1. Jatharagni – Digestive fire in the stomach.

  2. Bhutagni – Agni in the five elements.

  3. Dhatvagni – Agni in the tissues.

Balanced Agni is key to good digestion and health. Imbalance can lead to issues like indigestion and toxin buildup (ama). Ayurveda focuses on maintaining Agni through diet, lifestyle, and herbs.

Swasthya - The healthy human being refers to balance of three dosha, saptha dhatu, three mala, agni, atma and indriya.

05.

Prasanna Atma Indriya

Prasanna Atma Indriya refers to the harmonious state of the mind (Atma) and the senses (Indriya) in Ayurveda.

  • Prasanna Atma is a peaceful, joyful mind.

  • Prasanna Indriya means the senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell) are balanced and not overstimulated.

When both the mind and senses are in harmony, it leads to optimal health, emotional well-being, and clarity. Ayurveda emphasizes achieving this balance through practices like meditation, healthy living, and mindful interaction with the environment.

06.

Swasthya - Healthy Person

“Sama dosha sama agnischa sama dhatu mala kriyaḥ Prasanna atma indriya manah swasthya itiyabhidhiyate.”

Translation:

  • Sama dosha: Balanced doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha).

  • Sama agni: Balanced digestive fire (Agni).

  • Sama dhatu: Balanced tissues (Sapta Dhatus).

  • Mala kriya: Proper excretion of waste products (Malas).

  • Prasanna atma, indriya, manah: A peaceful soul, senses, and mind.

  • Swasthya iti abhidhiyate: This is called true health (Swasthya).
